RESTAURANT
LA GRENOUILLE PIMPANT
DECEMBER 2018
New Orleans is considered the birthplace of jazz. In order to celebrate the heritage of the city, the organization of the space reflects the elements that create the base for jazz music.
The circulation paths in the space diagrammatically represent the horn, symbolizing the common brass instruments that are so prevalent within the genre. Furthermore, the layout of the elements that form the restaurant embody the aspects of improvisation and syncopation using the open kitchen and bar, as well as the live music lounge.
These elements also reflect the creativity and honesty that jazz music allows its creators and listeners to experience. Certain details represent the historical architecture in New Orleans, such as the infamous wrought iron balconies that line the streets in the French Quarter. Overall, this restaurant embraces the history of the city through incorporating it into the design.
